Draugr, also called afturgöngur in Icelandic (literally meaning after walker), were the undead remains of slain vikings. They possessed super human strength, loved to eat flesh and relished in the suffering they caused. The also had the power to (among other things) enter your dreams and eradicate daylight.
Basically, the most terrifyingly haunting zombies to ever grace our imagination.
